I want to say I've done this, and am confident that I have. This works and is allowing me to continue, but it is very inconvenient AND I don't know if it is posing security risks to my site or not (which actually only has an 'under construction' message and my course databases). What I have done, for the sake of continuing my course, is created a database(s) on my own website and uploaded the files I create as I go. Stepped away from the computer for a couple of hours.

Tried XAMPP, but got overwhelmed and pissed off - uninstalled.

I am using the correct web server document root in MAMP. I have gone to phpMyAdmin (which I can still access) and made sure the localhost user has ALL PRIVILEGES.Ĭreated a new user with all privileges and plugged that into the connect function.ĭeleted everything, uninstalled MAMP, started section of course over from the beginning. The things I have done to troubleshoot from what I have began to understand: No amount of Google searching has helped me since I am too early in the learning process to understand all of the terms used or the programming required to possibly correct this issue. This worked at first but as soon as he started getting into anything past that, I started receiving the error when going to localhost:8888/index.php in my browser. In the first video, I was learning about establishing the connection using the mysqli_connect function. The instructor I am watching uses MAMP to create test databases, etc.
